  • The InspyreTM by SmartMonitor
The Inspyre™ by SmartMonitor is a patented, intelligent motion detecting and alerting app. The Inspyre™ can run on certain Samsung and Apple watches and can be used with Android phones and iPhones making it a fully portable device that continuously monitors movements, analyzes them for abnormalities, issues alerts, and securely records unusual occurrences.
SmartMonitor makes no claims regarding the ability or efficacy of the Inspyre™ in detecting seizures of any kind. The Inspyre™ monitors movements and sends alerts when detecting repetitive shaking motion. Inspyre™ is not a medical device and is not intended to be used in the diagnosis, monitoring, prevention, or treatment of disease. SmartMonitor does NOT claim to diagnose, cure, treat or prevent disease. The Inspyre™ by SmartMonitor has undergone clinical studies at top medical institutions across adult and pediatric populations that validates its ability to alert upon repetitive shaking motion. Studies at Stanford with 40 adult participants were concluded in June 2010. Inspyre™ performed with very high sensitivity – in the high 90s as noted in the journal article: Lockman J, Fisher RS, Olson DM. Detection of seizure-like movements using a wrist accelerometer. Epilepsy and Behavior 2011; 20:638-41. Studies at the University of California, San Francisco with the pediatric population were completed in 2013. The device has been used on children as young as 3 years old. In over 500 hours of testing, the device sensitivity in detecting tonic-clonic seizures was 100%; device specificity was over 90%. In addition to the above validation studies, the Inspyre™ by SmartMonitor is being used in clinical studies at Stanford University, NYU Langone Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital and the University of Virginia. These studies are evaluating the ability of Inspyre™ to provide data on seizures that was never possible before in an outpatient setting. A Stanford study that concluded in 2015 evaluated the ability of the Inspyre™ to provide data on seizures. The study determined that data on seizures provided by the Inspyre™ was more detailed and accurate than a seizure diary or patient and caregiver reports as published in “Tracking generalized tonic-clonic seizures with a wrist accelerometer linked to an online database” (European Journal of Epilepsy 2016 pp13-18).

  • How the InspyreTM by SmartMonitor Works
With patented miniaturized technology and sophisticated algorithms, the Smart Monitor analyzes activity outside a normal spectrum and reliably issues alerts upon the onset of various types of repetitive and excessive movements. Users can also summon help with a simple push of a button on the watch. Smart Monitor records movement patterns plus the time, duration and location (advanced model) of any unusual occurrences. Users can securely access their private information and send archived copies to their care provider for later review

The Smart Monitor by Smart Monitor can run on Samsung and Apple watches, and works in conjunction with an Android (5.0 os or above) or an iOS device (iPhone 5S and later models running iOS v8.0 and above). Users need to carry the device running Smart Monitor within a 15 – 30 foot range; for example in pockets, purses, backpacks, etc. When the app detects excessive and repetitive movement, it wirelessly signals the user’s phone, which then sends a text and calls a family members’ phone, within seconds.

The caregiver’s phone, which receives the alerts, can be anywhere. Recorded events are downloadable. Alerts can be sent or canceled by the user with a simple push of a button.
  • Users need to have a compatible Android phone or an iPhone with a data plan. Android phones must be running Android version 5.0 or above. iOS phones (iPhone 5S and later models) must be running IOS version 8.0 and above.

  • Users need to download the Smart Monitor application from either the Google Play Store (for Android) or from the App Store (for iOS).

While the SmartMonitor is continuously monitoring on the Samsung watches the battery life of the watch is approximately 16 hrs while the Apple Watch battery will last 18 hours.

The “start/stop” function that is presented on the watchface itself gives our users the ability to easily switch from monitored to unmonitored depending on their situation.

For example, the Stop Monitoring capability is great for those times when the user is with friends, watching a movie with family, or anytime that they have a loved one or caregiver nearby. Such optimal use of the Start and Stop functionality can extend the battery of the watch.
The InspyreTM by SmartMonitor, running on a Samsung or Apple watch, is a non-invasive, passive device. It will have no impact on current or future medication regimens or any surgery and it does NOT require you to make any changes to your lifestyle. The SmartMonitor is not a substitute for medical care. Again, it does not prevent, predict or treat seizures or any other kind of medical condition.
Yes, the SmartMonitor can be worn in bed, in schools, offices and elsewhere as long as the phone and the watch are within 15-30 feet of each other.

Yes, the Smart Monitor has a Help button that when pressed immediately sends an alert to the designated family members or caregivers. If Help is pressed by accident the user can cancel the alert by pressing the Cancel button on the watch (which will appear after the Help button is pressed). The Help button is available on the Silver and Gold plans.
The phone communicates with the watch using a Bluetooth connection. To use the Smart Monitor you need a Samsung or Apple watch and a smartphone with a data plan within a 15-30 foot range. Your family or caregivers can receive alerts on any cell phone, anywhere.
When the SmartMonitor and phone are separated by more than Bluetooth range distance (approx 15-30 feet), then they may be disconnected and it will not be able to send out alerts. It is important that the user keep their smartphone with them.
Beyond charging the watch and phone every day, no special care is needed. You may use the Test Connection feature on the app to check that the watch is connected and working properly.

  • Warranty and return
Yes, you can cancel your Smart Monitor subscription within 30 days from the original order date for a full refund of the subscription amount. However, the activation fee is non-refundable. If you purchase an annual subscription and cancel after 30 days, your payment is non-refundable and your service will continue for the remainder of your contract. You can cancel your subscription any time by contacting Smart Monitor at [email protected]
SmartMonitor does not sell or ship Apple Watches or Samsung watches. The user is responsible for purchasing their own watch from the retailer of their choice. Any device maintenance, warranty, returns, or defects on the watch will need to be directed to the manufacturer who sold you the device. After Purchase

Always make sure the the watch and phone apps are “Connected” and that the “Start” button on the watch has been pressed. The Inspyre™ will not monitor if not connected or in the monitoring mode.
If the Inspyre™ did not send out the text or call alert when it detected an abnormal motion event or an emergency event the SmartMonitor support team will want to know a few things when you submit a ticket for support at www.smart-monitor.com/Inspyre™-support/ – Is the contact’s phone number, including area code, correct in the Inspyre™ app? – Was the contact’s phone receiving calls/texts at that time? – Was the event cancelled before the alerts were sent out? – Do you have the alarm enabled on the phone that the app is running on? Go to “settings” and then “features”. If the alarm is enabled, click on the alarm icon and make sure “call can disconnected alarm” Is also enabled.

The SmartWatch Inspyre™ uses the accelerometer sensor when tracking/start monitoring. Unfortunately, it will alter the data for sleep/activity, and there’s no way to get around that at this time – other apps that detect abnormal motion/heartrate/etc will have the altered movement data, as well.

The Cancel button will be active as soon as an alert is triggered and, as soon as it is pressed, the user’s contacts receive a notification text that the event was a false alarm.
Make sure your Apple Watch is paired correctly with your iPhone in the Apple Watch App. If you need help with your Apple Watch or with pairing, please contact Apple support: https://support.apple.com/ If you are receiving a “Connection failed” error, make sure the Inspyre™ app is installed and open on your watch and your phone at the same time. Force close both apps and then open the app on your iPhone first, then your Apple Watch. If you still can’t connect, restart your devices and open the Inspyre™ app on both your devices again.
Make sure your Samsung Watch is paired correctly with your Android phone in the Samsung Wearable app. If you need help with your Samsung Watch or with pairing, please contact Samsung support: 1-800-SAMSUNG Be sure to install the Inspyre™ Watch App onto your watch through the Samsung Wearable app, as well as the Inspyre™ mobile app onto the phone in the Google Playstore.
If your Inspyre™ app and/ or watch are disconnected, remember to keep the devices in Bluetooth range (15 – 30 feet). Keep both apps running in the background to prevent disconnections. Don’t force close the app (swipe) on the Inspyre™ app on the Apple Watch or the iPhone. Check that Apple Watch is paired properly in the Apple Watch App.
“Close all” on all the apps on the phone: click the left of the home button, this should pull up all running apps, then click “close all” With the Inspyre™ open on the watch, press the upper right button on the watch. A message from the Inspyre™ app should pop up “Are you sure you want to exit” click “okay”. Re-open the app on the phone, and then re-open the app on the watch.
Anytime a user downloads our app onto a new phone, the app will require new credentials as a safety feature. Please contact [email protected] for new credentials.
Make sure your contacts are entered into the “contacts” page correctly in the Inspyre™ app. Enable the text alert and the call alert for contacts who you want to receive alerts. The text and call alerts will come from one of the following phone numbers- +1 510-250-7527 +1 408-442-3286 +1 650-203-6508 The text alerts will arrive as soon as abnormal motion is detected from the watch. The call alert will arrive secondary to the texts, while the event is in progress. While running a test, please keep in mind that pressing cancel will prevent the call alert. Still not working? Delete the contact and re-input the phone number. Important reminder: in order to monitor and receive alerts for abnormal motion, Inspyre™ app on watch must always be in “start” mode.
The “settings” in the Inspyre™ app are defaulted to our recommended settings, but you can modify them if you need the app to be more sensitive while sleeping and less sensitive during waking hours, or vice versa! Keep in mind that a sensitivity of 10 is highest, duration of 4 seconds is most sensitive. The higher the duration, the longer the watch will need to move to send alerts. The lower the sensitivity, the more movement the watch will require in order to send alerts. If you do change the settings, please press “Save” and perform a test to make sure that they are at the levels you prefer.

You are able to initiate the Inspyre™ features from the Settings page in the Inspyre™ app on the phone. Appropriate buttons will appear on the watch app after initiating.
